Lili & Susie is a disco-pop duo from Sweden, formed in the early eighties by sisters Inga-Lill and Susanne Päivärinta. They started out as backup singers for other Swedish artists. The duo released their debut single, “Sommar Inatt”, in 1985, followed by the Niklas Strömstedt produced album “Lili & Sussie”.
Lili & Susie gained some international success in 1986 with the italo disco single “Candy Love”, but their big break came in 1987, with hit single “Oh Mama”. It was followed by an album, “Dance Romance”, which also included the Swedish hit “Bara Du Och Jag”.
1988 was a successful year for Lili & Susie. They got to work with hit songwriting team Tim Norell, Ola Håkansson and Alexander Bard who wrote all the songs for their album “Anytime”. The album spawned three hit singles, “We Were Only Dancing”, “Enkel Resa” and “Robert And Marie”.
In 1989, Lili & Susie competed in Melodifestivalen, the Swedish pre-selection to the Eurovision Song Contest, with the song “Okey, Okey!”. It was later included on the remix album “Let Us Dance! A Remix Retrospective” released the same year, together with the new single “Let Us Dance Just A Little Bit More”.
After a well-deserved break, Lili & Susie returned in 1990 with “What’s The Colour Of Love”, a numer one hit in Sweden. The success was followed by the singles “Boyfriend”, “Something In Your Eyes”, “Nothing Could Be Better”, “Evelyn” and a new album, called “The Sister”.
Lili & Susie released the album “No Sugar Added” in 1992. They had co-written most of the songs, and the sound of the tracks were more mature, and less disco oriented. The only hit single was “Where Eagles Fly”, though the follow-ups “Ride On My Love” and “All You Can Say Is Goodbye” received some airplay.
The following year, Lili & Susie released the hit compilation “The Collection 85-93”. It spawned a new single, a remix of “I Believe In Good Things”, an album track from “No Sugar Added”. Sadly, the new single wasn’t a success.
Lili & Susie released two new singles in 1996, “Love Never Dies” and “Hypnotized”. None of them were successful and the duo decided to take a break in 1999. Lili released a solo album in 2001, and Susie released one in 2005.
Lili & Susie finally reunited in 2009 when they once again competed in Melodifestivalen with “Show Me Heaven”. The song was a hit in Sweden and the duo released a greatest hits album which included two new tracks. Since then, Lili & Susie have toured Sweden and released new singles such as “Would You Be Mine”, a number one hit on Swedish iTunes.
